This is an account of a man who was at the gates of Hell, insanity and death, but by the grace of God, and with the help of a twelve-step program, has been able to crawl out of the bottle. The turning point came when a psychologist stated that, in his opinion, I was not crazy but that I was only an alcoholic and could never ever successfully drink alcohol again. After successfully completing a rehab treatment program I have now been alcohol free for the past ten years and am now happy, joyous and free most of the time. When people ask me how it works, I usually give them the same old time-tested suggestions they gave me. We stay away from that first drink, go to meetings, read our books, call our sponsor and pray whether we believe in prayer or not, because it works.
